Laptop/Notebook Computer Policy
I) Laptop/notebook
computer Access. Each E. B. L. A. student is required to have
ready access throughout the semester to a laptop/notebook
computer that meets the
Laptop
Requirements
for E. B. L. A. students.
-
A student has a variety of
options for "access." Student ownership of an appropriate
laptop/notebook computer will be the most common approach, but
students may also lease, rent, or share a laptop/notebook
computer that meets minimum requirements as long as the student
has regular, unrestricted access to the machine.
-
For students who choose
ownership, a list of vendors of laptop/notebook computers is
provided to all students on the E. B. L. A. Academy High School
website. Companies that are authorized to perform in-warranty
repairs for E. B. L. A. equipment are designated as
"preferred"
vendors. Use of an E. B. L. A. preferred vendor is not required.
II) Standard Software. The
laptop/notebook computer that the student has ready access to
must include the E. B. L. A. standard software load (MS Office
Professional), an active Virus scanning program, plus additional
software needed for the student's major program(s). E. B. L. A.
will make the standard software load available to students for
$199.99
fee. It will be the student's
responsibility to ensure that all required software is obtained
and installed during the first two weeks of each semester.
Additional software necessary for specific courses and/or
programs will be available for purchase from E. B. L. A. Academy
High School and/or other vendors.
III) Internet Access. Each E. B.
L. A. student is required to have ready access to e-mail and the
Internet.
IV) Each student will be
responsible for making his or her own arrangement, if wanted,
with an Internet Service Provider (ISP) such as AOL, Juno, Bell
South, or Yahoo while off-campus. Secured Wireless internet
service is provided while on campus free of charge.
V) E. B. L. A. Academy High
School will provide each student with an e-mail address while
enrolled in classes at E. B. L. A. The student will be
responsible for monitoring this address on a regular basis for
communications from E. B. L. A. faculty and administrators.
VI) Computer Skills. Students
will be responsible for having or obtaining basic computer
skills including the ability to send and receive email, internet
browsing, and word processing. Higher level skills will be
expected for many courses. E. B. L. A. will make training
opportunities in basic computer skills available to students for
no additional cost. E. B. L. A. will make training opportunities
available in the computer skills necessary for the student's
chosen program.
VII) E. B. L. A.
will provide a computer helpdesk. The E. B. L. A. helpdesk will
provide general service to all student's laptops. If a laptop
part is physically damaged, it can be replaced if the machine
meets the following conditions:
- The
machine must be from a preferred vendor.
- The
machine must be under warranty.
- E. B.
L. A. must have consent of the owner to perform the work.
